Besides exploring the pristine Marlborough Sounds on water, you can also experience the beauty of Queen Charlotte Sound by walking the popular Queen Charlotte Track. Skirt forested ridgelines, golden bays and places where bush hugs hidden coves that you can call your own. Along the way you can stop to swim, maybe fish, or simply kick back and enjoy beautiful bird song with wonderful water views.
You can do the 71 kilometre walk just on those sections you choose, kayak between places, or walk the whole thing in 3-5 days, using accommodation options that are half a day’s walk apart. Most people choose to start their journey by take the boat to Ship Cove a place favoured by Captain Cook in 1770.
